Meet Jessica DeVoto, running for House of Representatives in Missouri, District 69
Jessica believes that Missouri has lost sight of its guiding principles, and aims to help them find their way back. She believes in the welfare of the people being the supreme law! Jessica is ready to see her state get back to a government of the people by the people, and for the people. That’s why she’s running for this house position!
Jessica has felt pushed to run for this position because of the recent bans on choice regarding women’s bodies and rights. Jessica can understand the needs of the people because she is one of them, and she goes through the same challenges and struggles that many of her community members do. She also believes that if you want a job done right, you have to do it yourself.
Some of the top focuses for Jessica include restoring reproductive rights and improving education in Missouri. She told us that Missouri ranks 49th out of 50 in education and also ranks very low in teacher salaries. Jessica also sees issues within their crumbling infrastructure and aims to improve this along with protecting LGBTQ rights, minority rights, and working towards criminal justice reform. To Jessica, a good future would be one where people have universal healthcare, funded school systems, and updated infrastructure.
Jessica shared with us that St. Charles, her community, is an upcoming area that is a great place for Democrats to get their foot in the door and work towards protecting rights and creating a better future! Jessica has three cats named Magic, Moonlight, and Nisa who are all rescued. Outside of campaigning, Jessica spends her time train-watching, antiquing, and spending priceless time with her family and loved ones!
