Meet Blythe Potter, running for Johnson County Council At Large, Indiana

Blythe is an Army Veteran, a small business owner, a mother, a wife, an active volunteer, and a community leader.

Along with her professional career and community involvement, Blythe is also a devoted mother and wife. She has a nearly four-year-old daughter named Violet and two stepdaughters, aged 18 and 21. Her family is central to her life, and she speaks warmly of their involvement in her journey! She is also a small business owner, working as an esthetician, massage therapist, and yoga teacher. Her passion for wellness extends beyond her professional life, as she is deeply involved in fostering community care and environmental sustainability.

Blythe began her journey into candidacy as a community activist who wanted to create positive change. Feeling frustrated by the division and misinformation within her community in 2022, she felt compelled to make even more of a difference. Encouraged by a local Democratic chairwoman, Blythe decided to run for town council, where she garnered 32% of the vote and contributed to the highest voter turnout in the county!

Blythe’s determination and commitment to her community did not waver after her initial run. She decided to continue her political journey by running for the Johnson County Council at large. Her platform focuses on public safety, which she views as an overarching issue encompassing various community needs. From improving road conditions to enhancing public transit accessibility and supporting county employees, Blythe’s goals are driven by a desire to create a safer and more connected community.

A unique aspect of Blythe’s political approach is her emphasis on environmental sustainability. She advocates for replacing traditional lawns with native plants to support pollinators and farmers, reflecting her broader commitment to community care.

If Blythe is successful, the future will involve a community more open to change, with a focus on environmental sustainability and collective well-being. People will be encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices and get involved in improving their neighborhoods. By promoting self-care and translating it to community care, she aims to unite people and address pressing issues like air quality and public infrastructure. Her vision is to foster a sense of togetherness and proactive change in addressing the environmental crisis and improving community life.

Blythe’s personal and political lives are deeply intertwined, both rooted in a desire to foster community, care for others, and create positive change. Her background as an Army veteran and her family’s involvement in her campaign further underscore her commitment to public service. With her husband, Michael Potter, running for state representative, the couple embodies a shared vision of staying and fighting for their community despite the challenges they face.

Outside of politics, Blythe is an avid reader, a lifelong dancer, and a true crime enthusiast. She participates in an adult dance class, with a particular love for tap and ballet! Blythe’s sense of family and community is further reflected in her role as an animal lover and rescuer. Over the past 15 years, Blythe has fostered over 100 dogs, and currently, she cares for four elderly pets: two dogs, Tiny and Elmo, and two cats, Jackson and Juliette.

Blythe is a dedicated community member, small business owner, and political candidate who seamlessly integrates her passion for wellness and community care into her public service. Her efforts highlight how one individual’s dedication can foster unity, environmental sustainability, and improved public infrastructure, proving that meaningful change begins at the grassroots level.
